Spring Bank provides services for the Financial Inclusion of New York City Spring Bank celebrates B Corp Month as the first B Corp in New York State

Two years for us as a certified B Corp and we couldn’t be more proud to be part of this growing movement of social entrepreneurs committed to using business as a force for good. Over the course of this month, our staff will be sharing about what being part of the B Corp movement means to them. And, what it means to be a for-profit, mission-driven, community bank working toward the financial inclusion of all people in New York City. To kick off the celebrations, Chandni Thakkar, our Bronx Branch Manager shares about empowerment and community.

Q: What does our mission mean to you?
A: To me, our mission means that we are working to improve the community we live in and provide every person with the access to financial services that they deserve to help themselves and their families. If more people had access to financial services and literacy they could help to empower themselves and their families in ways they may have not realized before. If we don’t empower our community, who will?

Q: What most excites you about the impact we are making in NYC?
A: From New Yorker to New Yorker, I want to see all of us succeed! I want us build a better city for the future generations and create a positive environment for our children to thrive in; being part of New York’s first B Corp bank allows me to do that using my area of expertise which is financial services and literacy.

Q: What most excites you about being part of the B Corp community?
A: Our world is change dramatically and no matter what city you’re in, you’re part of these changes, too. Being part of the B Corp community allows me to ensure that the change I’m effecting is one that I can be proud of and one that I know only benefits those that are a part of it, no matter their capacity. The rapidly growing B Corp community is an international family and that means I know I have supporters all over the world, it also means that I am certainly not alone in my beliefs that a better world is, not only possible but, on the horizon.

Q: What does it mean for our customers for us to have made the commitment to the B Corp movement?
A: It means that we care and they can trust us. We went the extra mile to be certified as a B Corp and committed to the B Corp way of business to show that we don’t just talk the talk – we walk the walk!

Q: How does being a B Corp make us different from other banks?

A: A lot of banks say they care, that each customer is equal, and that they are trustworthy, however they deliberate low-incomemmigrant communities; strategically impose absurd fees on low income customers, and they are ambiguous about their policies and practices. Being a B Corp holds us to a higher standard of ethics and transparency which is reflected through the relationships we build with our customers and our community.

And in case you haven’t heard, for the month of February, any B Corp or B Corp employee in the tri-state area who opens an account of any kind, we will donate $100 to financial literacy in NYC through our nonprofit partner, Ariva. Call us at 718-879-5000 for more information.

To a shared and durable prosperity for all of us!
