The future is female! Gracie, Julie and Chandni, three of Spring Bank’s team of women, enjoying some sunshine in the South Bronx
Wall Street’s “men’s club” reputation is evolving. From Santander Executive Chairman, Ana Botin who is working hard to expand banking services to the unbanked in Brazil and Mexico to Marianne Lake, the Chief Financial Officer of JPMorgan Chase who is a contender to succeed Dimon as the next CEO, women are holding higher senior level positions in banking than ever before. This shift is also true of community and B Corp banks. Kat Taylor, Co-Founder and CEO of Beneficial State Bank is highly regarded for her pioneering work in inclusion, climate change efforts or as she puts it in an article by B the Change Media: “good food, good money and good energy.” “Herstory” is changing, slowly, but surely in the financial industry. And we are grateful to be part that new narrative.
As we celebrate Women’s H[er]story Month this March, we will be showcasing the women of our local communities who are paving new paths for women to come in industries like accounting, development, social impact investing and executive leadership. We also pride ourselves in supporting several minority and woman-owned small businesses and change-makers in our city. They are the future of Her-Story in our city. Look for stories this month of the courageous women we respect and honor in the Bronx, in Harlem and in the B Corp movement.
But to start the month off, we celebrate inwardly first: the talented and hardworking women of Spring Bank. Over half of our staff is women, several of them holding Director level positions including Ines Marino, our Director of Small Business Lending, Julie Fahnestock, our Director of Marketing and Melanie Stern, our Director of Consumer Lending. Additionally, both of our branch managers—Chandni Thakkar in the Bronx and Josefa Ruiz in Harlem—lead majority women teams. We are proud to support the growth and leadership of women!
We invite you to participate in celebrating women with us this month! To demonstrate our commitment to the future of female, we are donating $50 to The New York Women’s Foundation on behalf of anyone who opens an account with us during the month of March.
