Hamad Ali’s live-poultry business occupies a storefront under the elevated subway tracks along Westchester Avenue in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. It is a modest operation on a down-at-the-heels strip in the city’s most economically challenged borough. Nonetheless, Mr. Ali is very positive about something that very few small-business owners in the area are: his bank. “I’ve been in New York more than 30 years doing business with all the banks, and they never cared about me,” he said. “But my bank now, it is a lovely bank.”
